Not that long ago, we visited the Tiers of Happiness kitchen to see for ourselves just how this whole cake baking process works… after all, how hard can it be, right? Right?!
Well, as it turns out… REALLY hard! Mostly, in my case anyway, the total lack of restraint from licking all utensils within sight that were coated in icing sugar (oh my god, the icing!)
Truth be told, it turns out the real hard work comes from the clients. Much like wedding photography, they can be very particular over their needs and Ilona goes out of her way to make things not just match theirs, but also her own (exceedingly high), standards.
So, when a customer places an order for SIX HUNDRED cup-cakes, the Tiers of Happiness bakery just gets on with it. No sweat. No licking of utensils along the way. Just downright effecient productivity. Which suits our photographic style just fine as it means we can just get on and take the photos as things unfold…. in between assisting with the ‘cleaning-up’ operation. That is, until Dasha tells me to stop eating all that sugar as I’ll get fat and won’t be able to lift myself around my photoshoots!!
Once these gorgeous little creations were stuffed with jam (yummy jam!) and iced up (with yummy icing!) they were just about good to go. All they needed was a little bit of ‘sparkle’ provided with brilliant little cupcake toppers that might just be familiar to a few million PC users out there.
While we were there, we also had the opportunity to photograph some of the beautiful cakes that Ilona has created as well as the cake boss herself, which you can see more of over on their website.
It was great to see them in action and get a chance to taste the flavours! Highly recommended, so much so that you get a discount if you book your wedding photography with us and your cake with Tiers of Happiness – we even used them for our own wedding cake!
