This is the eleventh in a series of articles all about how we prepare for your wedding photography. To read more of this series, please go to the index on Preparing for Your Wedding Photography. I’m delighted to announce that as part of our wedding packages we are able to include a Trash the Dress shoot! (click on the link to see more examples)
For those wondering, Trash the Dress does not literally mean go out and get photos of you throwing your wedding dress in the bin… For Trash the Dress photo shoots, the bride puts her wedding dress on again and heads out somewhere for a more stylized photo shoot, without worrying about the mud, sand, dust and general dirt and grime.
For obvious reasons then, it’s not generally something you do on the day of your actual wedding, but when you’ve spent all that time picking ‘The One’ and spared no expense, why not give yourself a good reason to wear the dress a second time and get some great photos… (and I’m not talking about lengthy divorce proceedings and costly online matchmaker website fees!)
Of course, it doesn’t even have to be your wedding dress, if it’s rented, you could go with any outfit you like if you prefer something a little bit different.
The shoot may take place in a forest, or by the beach, or even surrounded by the debris of an old building. The locations are limitless and it is entirely up to you how far you want to take the ‘trashing’ part of it (subject, of course, to the usual pizazz around Health and Safety and any restrictions on access – safety and ‘the law’ come first!). Our aim is for you to come away from the shoot with at least a few spectacular shots, rather than necessarily a memoir of the whole day.
The great thing about Trash the Dress shoots is, the whole thing is a lot more relaxed and stress-free for the couple. There’s no church to get to, no waiting wedding reception guests, just you and the camera (which by now, if you’ve used us for your wedding photography, you should be entirely comfortable with).
Did I say couple? Yes, why not both get back into your lovely outfits? Trash the Dress shoots often focus around the Bride and her dress but there are plenty of options for couples to both don their wedding attire again and get a little silly for a while.
These shoots can vary between an hour and a whole day, it really is up to you, your imagination and patience! You might even find that the very last shot of the day is the one that works best!
