Having just got back from our travels in the beautiful, amazing Kenya, I wanted to quickly post this up whilst it was fresh in my mind. I promise you all that the Safari pictures are on their way, but until then, let me share a moment with you.
We had the good fortune to travel on the same tour as a lovely couple, Chantelle and Martin. On this particular night, it was Chantelle’s birthday, and Martin was keen to make it a birthday treat she would never forget…
Martin caught up with me before we headed out for our afternoon game drive and told me he was planning to propose to Chantelle that night after dinner. We agreed to video and photograph the whole thing and, with Chantelle unaware, Martin even managed to get the staff at the Ashnil Mara Camp to help present the birthday cake before Martin was to ask the big question.
I have to hand it to him, he might have been nervous but the event was spectacular.
The entire kitchen staff came out singing and dancing, torches and drums, panpipes and all, in one long procession.
Not liking surprises, (oh, but she’ll love this one) Chantelle was dreading that it was all for her, so when the procession went full swing right past her, the sense of relief was almost painted bright and vivid in her expressions. That’s right, they went right past her… kept on singing and dancing and then, ultimately of course, ending right up at Chantelle and Martin’s table.
In the midst of all the whooping, cheering, and singing of Jambo Bwana Martin plucked up the heroic courage to outdo all of that and ask Chantelle to marry him.
Could he really have expected anything other than a yes?! The man deserves a medal (and a stiff drink)… A class act Martin, we wish you both the best of luck and look forward to sharing your special day with you.
